Heating and Incubation
    #3368210 - 11/16/04 12:00 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

So it is winter and I want to start growing again. My place isn't the warmest in the world. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on how to cheaply but effectively 1) keep my jars warm after inoculation/during incubation, and 2) how to keep a perilite styrofoam terarium warm. I am weary of over heating, but i know my place is too cold for propper growing.

Also I haven't grown in 4 years. If anyone has seen any revolutionary techniques surface in that time that I should check out do tell me about them. I just figure there has to be some new developments since i last grew. Thanks shroomeryiers.

Do a search on "tub in tub"

Which basically works as follows:
- 1 tub with some inches of water
- an aquariumheater in the water
- Another tub, IN the tub with the water and the heater, so it floats on the water. You can push it down, and tie, a bit so there is water at the sides too. But this is not really necesarry.
- Put your jars in this tub
- cover the "jar-tub" with the lid or something so the warm air stays in, contams stay out and that it is dark

Put your aquariumheater to 86F and voila!

yea the Tub in Tub is the best method (i currently use it, but then again im only on my first attempt)

Basically, take a rubbermade filled 3/4 with h20, put a submersible heater in it, put another rubbermade ontop of the first one. Gauge the temp. and you're set.

Get a heater with a thermostat, its a good idea. Also, an airstone isnt a bad idea to displace the heat evenly.
