Strains getting used to substrates
    #3368110 - 11/16/04 11:24 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Hello!

Question, can it be that a strain which has been grown on BRF cakes for 20 generations or more does not grow on other substrates as good anymore?

I read about a guy who grows Cubes on wood, generation after generation he added more wood to the substrate. An example of cubestrain getting used to substrate in positive way.

But what do the experts think, a strain used to brf is that harder to grow on for example popcorn?

it's not really harder at all. Adaptation is a wonderful thing and I do believe mushrooms adapt to their environment. So if you kept growing the same strain out over and over it would adapt to the substrate more. One of my friends was telling me this is why when you're isolating strains with agar you'll want to use two different kinds of agar.

Yeah that was what i meant, a strain adapted (used) to BRF, and then after all those years growing on BRF is it better to stick to BRF? Would switching to another substrate after all those years give a shocklike effect and less yield or something?
