hello all,

i had an idea the other day, i was thinking, somehow mix rye with the karo tek to increase nutes and speed up growth.

anyway, here are my two ideas on how to do this:

1) follow magash's rye tek exactly, but simmer the rye with karo water.

OR

2) After simmering, soak rye in karo water for an amount of time, or just rinse with karo water.

Comments?

(i'm sure someone has thought of this before... if so, any experimentation?)

Rye absorbs water when simmered to fully saturate. If you replaced the water with nutrient enriched water it makes sense that the rye would absorb that substance thus adding nutrients.

Sounds like a good experiment.  :thumbup:

You would think since karo is a sugar... at high heat it will just carmelize on the rye. Since mycellium will not consume carmelized sugars well, this idea seems completely unbeneficial to creating a better growing medium.

Nah, you only simmer for about 20-30 minutes and that won't carmelize the sugars

well, that defies spliffmasta's point. The simmer might not carmelize, but the PC sure as hell should.

I dont think that The Pc will carmalize it. I just PCd some Karo water jars for 25 minutes and they were fine. Not sure if the added time for steralizing grains will carmalize the sugars or not, but its worth a try. There was something in a post about this issue recently about karo/honey jars.

Rye has plenty of nutrients itself, there is not much sense in adding any more to it.

I just did a rice + karo tek. Using whole brown rice and preparing it the same way as you would rye. After I pc'd em they were carmelized causing the cakes to stick together. I still believe it will work, i just don't think that it will be as fast since you can't shake it up AT ALL!!!
I'll let you know if they took in day or so.

the 20 minutes (15?) needed for karo and the hour needed for grain I think would surely make a difference.
