To many cakes, what to do?
    #3366595 - 11/15/04 11:37 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Well I'm about to birth my 2nd flush, however I have 8 more cakes that will be done in 1 or 2 days in the inncubator, what should I do? I don't want to make another tub, becuase I don't want that many shrooms, I simply do not need them. I just timed it off, what shall I do?

Eh, make another tub or start the new ones, and throw out the old ones, and start to tmie better? THe new ones have 3 flushes+ left... old ones only have 1 less flush left. Go for the ones with more!

Set them in the fridge is a trick I read yesterday. Keep them right in the jar and keep them cool. But I would do something with the 2 liter tek for the extras.

I think they can stay in jars in the fridge for a while but I'm not sure.. I've not done that myself yet.

Alternatively you could case them in a couple of small bucket size  containers with a plastic bag over the top.. I've not tryed that either yet tho . But I have some plastic popcorn buckets on standby incase I face the same situation any time soon.

fat lot of help eh..

They can stay in the fridge for a couple weeks... but you lose your temp drop as a pinning tool. Just have to hope that light cycle and new air flow to do the job!

I was thinking after this 2nd flush I'll put the new ones in there and juice and toss the other ones. This is my 1st grow, so my time was off 1 week.

Maybe the fridge will slow down the myc growth?

Don't be afraid to let them colonize a while longer. It will only make the mycellium network stronger.
You could just leave them in a dark container at room temperature to slow growth.
Or maybe you could break up the older cakes and turn them into one big casing to free up space.
Or maybe you can stack them on top of each other.

And as for the part about not wanting too many shrooms...HA!

Well, think about, what the hell would I do w/ more shrooms? I already have more than I know what to do with, 12-16g's every 3 weeks is more than I can even eat.

I believe I will move them into room temp in the dark, thanks!

I wouldn't freeze them, dry out the extras, put them in an airtight container and keep them for a rainy day. You don't need to eat them all fresh.

Leave them alone till your ready to birth them, they can even pin inside the jars if you want them to. Just dry and store the shrooms, if you're worried about being caught with a shitload of shrooms, grind them into powder and throw them in the freezer, they'll keep for a long time and no one will know what the powder is, you can say whatever you want it to be. It's true, there is no such thing as too much shrooms, just get creative storing them! Also look up blue honey as another option.

2 of my cakes colonized for 2 days longer than the rest and they got way more shrooms than the rest. I'm not sure about a week but if you keep them in the dark in a warm place they probaly won't fruit until you want them to.

Invitro the guys who are on their second flush. Make room for the new ones in the tub. Just an idea. I've not really heard of people re-invitroing (a word) cakes...

Have you the height to do some double stacking?
