cakes stuck in jar!
    #3362590 - 11/15/04 01:17 AM (19 years, 5 months ago)

I just emptied out 2 of my 5 jars which did not colonize at all (im assuming the spores went into the dry verm instead of the substrate). Anyway, I tried to just tap the substrate out of the jar similar to how I would have done a fully colonized jar. The substrate was COMPLETELY stuck in there ho matter what I did or how hard I tapped. Im assuming it has to do with the fact that my vermiculite was so fine and it wasnt very fluffy in there at all. The only way I could get the stuff out was by actually digging in there with a spoon and even this was slightly difficult. This got me to thinking - once my cakes ARE fully colonized, how the hell will I be able to get them out of the jars???

Usually when the myc consumes the whole cake the substrate will shrink a bit giving you an easy time getting them out, or you can get it out with a spoon in chunks and case them

Yep, they shrink a good deal, and they're more a one solid object than before. Its usually no sweat.

Just dont pack your jars like I did or they will never colonize.
