making the subtrate...
    #3361054 - 11/14/04 07:33 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I did the 5 cup verm, 2 1/2 cup h2o, and 2 1/2 cup BRF mixture for a total of 10 jars...

1) i filled 11 jars and still had enough subtrate left for probably 2 or so jars, is that cool?

2) The subtrate wasnt necessarily wet and i also let it sit out for about 20 - 30 minutes while returning my grinder, is that cool?

btw, i had to use 3 different grinders to grind up the BR; POSs.

3) is there any way to add more h20 to the jars?

Its only been 2 days since inoculation so theres no growth yet, but i dont wwant it to be too dry.

Jars may seem dry. Especially to newbs like me and you. But don't fret, give it time. I'm guessing that you will begin to see first signs of growth within the next couple of days.

Dont worry about h20 till dunking time.
oh.. the main probs in the past for the junkie in the gutter is the wet spot mould from too much h2o.
I think its quite hard to make the exact ammount of substrate for the jars.
Soon you may just be able to do it all by eye.

Dont add more water. Water content can be kinda tricky, and if you put too much in there you wont see any growth at all. Im assuming you did a multi spore inoculation, as opposed to mycellium. What temps are you incubating at?? I know this gets said a million times every day, but you need some patience for this hobby, your not going to see extreme booming growth two days after inoculation. Im not saying that its not possible to get that to happen but more often than not it can take a few days for the spores to germinate and start multiplying the mycellium. Again dont add more water, all youll end up doing is increase your risk of contamination and having too high a water content.

Yea, i did the 4-hole inoculation in each jar/

my temps at 82 -86 degrees F.

I got myself a PMP(10" Airstone w/ a pump for a 30-60 gallon setup) and a TnT (with a 200w heater set at about 95 degrees.

Also, i was planning on dunking for 24 hours in the fridge priore to placing the cakes in the fruiting chamber (i was told it couldnt hurt).

My goal with this project is to get an 1/8 of an ounce per flush.
