Didn't Jerry play banjo in Old and In The Way, though? There was some other guitarist, I think...

Yeah Old and in the Way are hella good and same with all of the Garcia and Grisman duo albums.  I've always loved the instruments and sound of bluegrass.  However, I can't stand the nasally sound of their voices and the way they harmonize irritates me, but I guess I have to learn to cope with it if I going to listen to the music.  I just recently bought a banjo and my brother bought a mandolin, we both have been playing guitar for a while so we wanted to expand our musical talents.  We could eventually form a family band.  Banjo is my favorite instrument so I was really excited to get one and I enjoy jaming on bluegrass breakdowns with other banjo players, acoustic-stand-up bassists, mandolin players, and acoustic guitarists.  I would say I'm deffinitely influenced by Grisman, Garcia, Vassar Clemens, Bela Fleck, Todd Phillips, Tony Trishka, Earl Scruggs, Tony Rice, the Rowan Brothers, John Kahn, and other bluegrass artists.  I just saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones live.  They were so awesome.  They kicked so much ass. :tongue2:

Peter Rowan, who normally plays mandolin in his quartet and with the guitarist Tony Rice, played guitar in Old and In The Way because Grisman is better at mandolin. Because Peter Rowan was on guitar, Jerry played his secondary instrument, Banjo.

One thing I've always wonderd though was how Jerry could play banjo without a middle finger, which is a crucial finger for playing banjo?

hes a man of amazing talents, im sure he found a way around that

I really love the stuff that garcia and grisman did togethter.  I grabbed "Grateful Dawg" a while back, and i still love kicking back with a brew to watch it, even though the documentary side of it is a bit lame :P
