wipe and flush
    #3356789 - 11/13/04 05:29 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

the eposodic tragedy that is my first grow continues.

on one of my cakes, two short mushrooms sprouted in the span of a day. i picked them and watched the other little pins. it is now three days later and the tiny pins have not grown much. i assumed my cakes are exhausted and it is time to forget what growing and maybe dunk and roll. is this correct?

Those cakes should not be spent after producing only 2 fruits and a couple of pins. While your cakes are dunking, double check your fruiting conditions and make sure everything is optimal. Otherwise you'll still have the same problems after the dunk. Good luck.

yeah, I know, it doesn't make any sense.

mushrooms grow really fast, right? like the growth that I saw, two fat primordia suddenly appearing and being full grown in two days is how it should be, I believe.

So other small primordia came up, not huge like the first 2, but only one is growing at all, super slowly, the rest are not at all.

The temp in there is 70s and the humidity is supposedly 98, though I don't trust any hygrometer.

I have one cake that is still not fruiting anything at all.

I realize they should not be spent by now, and unless those first few were super fast growers, then my babies are super stunted!

What could be going wrong?

bump your temp upto 75 for fruiting. Sometime cakes take a little extra time pinning, also.

Also, keep your eyes out for contam. Contam can slow the growth.

yeah the one has some blue, but I'm pretty sure it's from being dried out before.

I don't know how to bump the temp, I've got the heating pad up to high as it is...

Get an aquarium heater. If you can get a IC thermal drive, that's even better.

Well, I guess the heat wasn't the problem.

I cleared off the small primordia that were left, and dunked just in case they were deydrated.

Everything in the box is fine, 98% humidity, mid 70s. I have small primordia again, maybe 1/4", but they aren't growing any bigger than that.

The two that did grow, they suddenly appeared as fat primordia and were full grown in 2 days!

These are so small, and aren't growing at all, which was the situation after the full grown ones were picked, before I dunked.

I don't really understand what could be wrong. I have more spores coming, but I don't want to repeat my mistakes.

It appears that there are pins forming, and mycelial growtih, but they do not progress in the same fashion as those first two.

Now, perhaps those first two were mutants, but it seems from my readings that the current batch is severely stunted.

What could I be doing wrong?
