"My Solution to Skinny Stems and Small Caps"

I hope this gives a helping hand to all of us that have had the damn annyoing "skinny stem small cap" issues, and no, viagra can't cure this one:) I had two 18 gallon rubber terrariums set up, with 2 inches of perlite, 1/2 inch of water underneath. I got paranoid, so I installed a bubbler on each, blowing in "fresh" air, the bubblers had built in filters, they were fanned twice daily also. RH was constand at "93%" with temps @82. I noticed that 75% of the crop was skinny with tiny little caps. Solution: I removed 1 inch of perlite from each terrarium and removed the bubblers, still giving a good fanning twice daily. New crop is normal. I don't know why, but I think 1. Maybe too much humidity from excess perlite and 2. For some reason, the air blowing in from the bubblers caused issues. If anyone knows why this would be, please post here.
I've got nicotine stains on my fingers. I've got a silver spoon on a chain. I've got a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains PEACE HeGz

Removing the perlite will not help, and I know nothing about using a bubbler. What will help however, use a higher quality substrate. I'm not sure what you are using now, but if it is BRF/Verm, long skinny stems and small caps(small shrooms in general) are pretty typical.(in my experience) How do you think Hawk posts those "Bigg'uns"? He is using a high quality substrate. Hope this helps! Dioze1 check out the Free Spore Ring! http://go.to/FreeSporeRing

yeh d is right, either put more brf into your substrate or try another, or you casings are too small, either way the key is nutrients

Hey Hippie. No disrespect intended but, I am Not wrong. The question pertained to shrooms--plural. That is A nice shroom indeed--singular. To produce more than a few "one hit wonders" One needs to uprade to a more nutritious substrate. Dioze1
