What methods do you use for packing your bulk(straw/poo) substrate and how packed should it be?

dont pack it too much, that poo will create an anaerobic atmosphere which would inhibit mycelium growth.

Straw isnt very dense and some commercial cultivators use hydrolic presses to pack it down. Useful when applying an even casing layer.

The cat always packs his straw just tight as he can get it. For his latest project he put plastic wash tubs on top of the substrate and then stepped into them, using his body weight to compress the straw. The cat weighs 220, so it worked pretty well.
