Straw Tek Help
    #3356420 - 11/13/04 05:56 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

O.k i am planning on using ShroomGods Straw Tek but i am a bit confused about exactly how much of everything i need. I will be using 4 cubic feet of wheat straw. How many quart jars of rye berries should i use? And actualy can i use rye beries instead of the bird seed cakes? I also planned on ordering a casing mix from micron magicks mystical market. How many gallons of that should i order? Would a 45 gallon rubbermade tub hold everything with enough room for the fruit to grow? Thank you guys in advance

One syringe will be enough if you perform g2g transfers.

i plan on pasturizing using the techniques offered in shroomgods tek. it was a very good tek except it did not offer clear measurments. had i ever paid any attention in math class i could probably figure most of the measurments myself. lol. but i suck at math. What i realy need to know is how much of everything i need to do the 4 cubic feet of wheat straw i plan to use. For examply, how many rubbermaid tubs and how big? How many gallons of the pre mixed casing mix? how many quart jars of rye berries should i prepare ect? I have used the search function for about two weeks before posting and i have read alot of the teks. So i hope my questions arent too stupid. again thank you guys alot

the math is simple... figure out how thick you want to make the layer of straw. 4 cubic feet 6912 cubic inches of straw if i'm right. i'm probably doing my math wrong though.. but is it not lenghtxwidthxhheight=area? (looked it up, yes, so i was right bhahahah) so say you want it 3" thick... 3xy=6912 would find the ideal container sizes, but there's probably not ONE big enough. there are multiple answers to 3xy=6912 obviously. but more simply.. my rubber mades are 36x22 that holds 2376 cubic inches of straw at 3" thickness.. about a foot and a quater squared.. so you'd need 3 tubs. Figure out what size tub you can have.. figure out the dimensions and if 3xlxw=6912 it would be a perfect container. more likely you'll have to get a couple. the 4' rubbermades, two of them would probably make for a good set of tubs. but you'd have to make it a bit less then 3" thick then. Simply Put, take the thickness of staw layer multiply that by the lenght of the rubber made, and muliply the product of that by the width of the rubbermade. Thats how much straw you're putting in. 4 cubic feet is 6912 cubic inches. you can figure out the math from here i hope, if i was clear.

WOW! Sounds like i was going for way too much stuff! Thank you for the info. I am buying everything needed now so i will start a grow log in a week or two. If anyone else has any suggestions about the straw tek please post them. Also i noticed after reading a couple straw grow logs that most people do not use a humidifier hooked up to their tubs. Should i ?
