hi everyone i went to my gfs horse barn today, and i found a bunch of what i thought were cubes. I was looking for something to put them in when i came back to the pile only to find a 5 year old stomping them and kicking them! I managed to find a small one. It bruised blue but i wanted to know what you all thought it was just incase. Thanks. There are many more out there havnt picked until i identify.

Are you kidding? You expect an ID from that pic and that description?

Take it out of the bag.
The blueing is a good indication of it being a cube though, but for now, get a better picture.

A very bad picture indeed, a tenative guess though would be that it does strongly resemble an immature Ps. cubensis and there looks to be bluing. Do post better pics and description though, it would really help.

I was so pissed you have no idea man... I was looking for a bag to put em in and i came back and this 5 year old was stomping and kicking them into "oblivian" There were like 8 perfect ones all gone too I'm not to worried about the cold yet im in the south and its in the mid/high 70's even low 80's during the day right now. Thanks for the posts man it helps alot. Ill have to go out there tomarrow "if i can" and look around. I think someone was moving the shit into a new pile but hopefully we have some that popped up overnight. They grow very fast Thanks again.

yea thats a good idea. Im gonna fuck around with the digital cam tonight and see if i can get the peice of shit working. Another wierd thing that i saw was a large "5-7 in" wide black cap mushroom that the little girl also kicked and it bruised blue. It had Snow White gills under it. Anyone know what that is. And if not any more posts on weather or not thats a cube i would really appreciate it.

i'm in the south too, and it's about to get cold enough to 'halt' the season, although lone cubes seem to sprout any time around here

Habitat sounds right and the bluing reaction is what you'd expect from cubes. Just find a mature specimen and make sure it's got a purple brown print and/or a purple veil.

No! Heat will kill the active chemicals.
Fan dry them! Or/AND use desiccant.

must have been pretty wet to get fuzzy that quick. get a food dehydrator. Oven is bad for shrooms.

Screw all that. Here is how I dry my mushrooms and it works perfectly:
Fan dry them for 12-24 hours. Right in front of the fan. If the mushrooms are too beefy to dry completely, cut them up into thinner slices.
Once they've been fan dried, go to home depot and find yourself an AIR TIGHT (must be completely air tight) container. Then go to the painting section and look for Damp Rid. If you can't find it ask someone, it's cheap stuff. Then, take your container, pour the damprid in the bottom of it. Create some way to suspend the mushrooms over the damprid. I have a layer of damprid, some chicken wire, and then a coffee filter on top of the chicken wire where the fan dried mushrooms sit. This works perfectly and will get your mushrooms cracker dry. I mean REALLY dry, you'll have no problems powdering them.

Put them under a fan untill dry lol! I would try to find a way to suspend them like chicken mesh or something, b/c airflow makes it faster.

yeah ,a fan will do fine if the humidity is low in your house,if not it may take 3 or 4 days to get'um good and dry.they wont be cracker dry but it will be close.if you plan on storeing them for a while you better go get some damp-rid or epsom salt.you need to bake the desiccant for a little while to get out all the h2o before you use it for drying.instead of choping the shrooms in little pieces, slice them long ways in half.place them in front of a fan and wait.turn them every once in a while to speed up the process.when they are almost dry put them in a airtight container with good dry desiccant. place a paper towel on top of the desiccant to keep the shrooms from coming in direct contact with it.place in fridge and the next morning you will have cracker dry shrooms!-)
