Tyvek and Coffee Filters

Is it safe to say that coffee filters can be used in place of a Tyvek filter in all situations?

I have found that after a couple uses, the jar lids get rusty. Then the coffee filters act like a wick for the germs from the rusty lids.

Plus, when you use them, they're all brown and gross and stuff.

nope. tyvek acts much more as a moisture barrier. also, tyvek lives up to a micron spec. there is no such control for coffee filters.

Coffee filters definatly are a horrible replacment for tyvek. PF Tek would be fine..but you dont need either..grains it wouldnt stop any mold spores..tyvek blocks things that are many microns smaller then coffee filters which wont stop much more then dust.
