Too much water
    #335522 - 06/05/01 07:54 PM (23 years, 10 months ago)

Allright, well I've been checking around the contaminants forum and asking everywhere if anyone can tell me if my jars are contamed. And I've come to the conclusion that they're not contaminated (i think) it's just water got into them while they were boiling so now there's too much water in the mixture. This is causing the mycelium to grow very slow.... Is there anythnig I can do to possibly dry them out, or speed up mycelium growth?

Use a heating pad, just turn in up a little higher than you normally would, lke from low to meduim or high.Thats all I ca suggest though. That would dry them up a bit.But Im not sure how fast it would work.

If you have a verm seal, take the lids completely off, put them in a draw and don't peek at them for 2-3 weeks. In the meantime start another batch, sometimes overly wet sub mix will stop growing alltogether..........Also to high heat from a heating pad will kill them, temps over 86 degree's are no good....

That's easy... Flip your jars onto their lids... use GRAVITY.... it will drain into the verm... peace

Flipping jars will block the holes and not allow air exchange to evaporate the water, the center of the cakes need to dry out as well as the excess water you can see......

Hey there "newbie" .... you obviously haven't done this many times....and you obviously dont know a shit's worth about physics...

"

dry out as well as the excess water you can see......"

1. your not trying to DRY out the cakes.....
2. Gravity and water's NATURAL characteristic of beading together and flowing down toward GRAVITY....
3. have you ever even HAD this problem?????
4. cakes dont need to have their "holes" constantly exposed
5. the most important phase when the mycelium "might" need some extra air would be after 65-90% colonization...
