Brown Cyanescens?
    #3352884 - 11/12/04 07:07 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I beleive I finally found cyanescens.. THese ones were growing on someones lawn and have the exact appearance (taking SP's now), except that they are completely dark brown; the stem has white little veins at the bottom near where I cut them off. I don't have pics, sorry. But any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,

-samus.  :mushroom2:

If it doesn't bruise blue heavily, its not cyanescens.

Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with its three warm and wild eyes.

On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.

How long does bruising take?

Squeeze the stem and handle a specimen. It should bruise with in 5 minutes to an unmistakable blue color.

Good luck, let us know the sporeprint results.

The prints will be a noticable purple within 2-4 hours, right?

if the pure white stems dont bruise a rather quick and intense blue, you dont have them.

If the stem isn't blue by now, you don't have a cyan.

Be careful, there are mushrooms out there that look somewhat like cyans, particulary from above, that are not. Make sure you have a good bluing reaction on the stem and a correct spore print.

Cyans bruise blue very heavily and very quickly.

Check this picture of an un-handled cyan I came across. (The stem on the left is what I am talking about)

Very hard to mistake for.

If it doesn't have a white stem that bruises obviously blue, it's not a cyan and it *could* be a Galerina, which is DEADLY.

Here's some pics of some obvious bluing in Psilocybe weilii, it's unmistakable really:

cyans i have picked have taken VERY long to show bruising. Sometimes hours and the only bruising that really showed was a sickly greenish that showed through the cap, the mix of the lightish brown with blue looks green

I'd be careful. Seen so many Gallernia autumnalis that look like cyans this year.
