i was wondering if their was a useful life expectency of spore syringes you buy offline? do they last longer if kept in certain conditions or the like. if they lasted say infinitly long provided certain conditions was thinking about having them around even if the time wasnt right yet. thanks

keep them in the fridge. I've heard people have success with 2-3 year old syringes.

u get thd idea witht he spores going in the tube, but its not that easy. one must be completely sterile.
and i dont think that was a link he was reffering to, rather a link in his signature
syringes/prints last a loooooong time

spore syringes can last 5+ years if stored in the fridge preferably in 2 ziplock, one inside the other and that in a paper bag (cool dark place). I have had some last more than 2 years stored in adverse conditions, spores are pretty durable but storing them properly will increase the life expectancy.
you will most likely use them before they loose viability.
regarding your question about the spore print, it will be mailed on paper or on a piece of foil, you'll need to buy sterile syringes and learn about making them in order to make them usable, the other option is to use the spore print with agar, that requires a little more equipment and a little more experience, I always recomend a first timer to buy a pre-made syringe from a reputable vendor http://www.shroomery.org/sponsors.php

Spore syringes very much lose alot of viability if not used within a few months of being produced. IME, after 6 months or more in a refridgerator, most of the spores have died. Since there are millions of spores though some still survive.
IME, a super dark syringe, stored for about 8 months, lost most of it's viability and jars inoculated with it showed colonization in only a few spots. That same solution would have had thousands of colonization spots if used immediately. A spore print, however, can last years without losing much viability.
It seems that once the spores are hydrated a countdown to infertility begins.

A friend of mine just used a syringe that he made well over a year ago. It was stored in a drawer. It produced.
I dont know if it took longer for the spores to find suitable mates, or if there was colonization in fewer spots than if it had been fresh. It did work though.
Thats the longest I've ever personally known a syringe to remain viable, but I've heard some ppl say as long as two years.
Anyone have a syringe they've been saving for years that they can try a grow with and see if it takes longer than a fresh syringe?

I had about 12 syringes that ended up stored in an outdoor shed for 2 1/2 years, temps were over 95 in teh summer and down to -10F during the winter, a friend asked for them and knocked up some jars and bags, he said he only had a contamination problem from 1 strain and the rest showed signs of colonization within a week. it is best to use it as soon as possible but they can survive a bit of storage

6+yrs. here and absolutely viable! Spores don't die after 6 months to ? yrs. more than likely someone forgot to shake the syringe I've routinely used syringes after 1-2yr.+ storage in the fridge without ever having a problem, maybe I have a special fridge?

Hyphae the fact that I did NOT shake my syringe before I inoculated my jars can that be a cause of slow scarce little colonisation?
Thanks.

if you didn't shake your syringe then the spores might have settled. When you inoculated, you might have only squirted water into your jars, while leaving all the spores in the other end.
I would have thought that that was insanely unlikely, as some people claim that spores are so small that they aren't affected by gravity.

there was some sterile air in the syringe to shake betetr but I just forgot it! Only before i inocluated the last 1CC into the popcorn jar ishaked it. And THAT jar is fastest in colonizing, some jars show nothing att all some only a few small white spots. The jars i knocked last friday the popcorn saturday

I had a two year old syringe which my old roommate put in the freezer for some reason... spent several months there... thawed it out knocked up some jars and it worked.
