ID - 3 Different Mushrooms
    #3345058 -

Hey whats goin on? Well, I believe these are edible, but I am not a mycologist and would really appreciate a second opinion before I ingest them. There are two Pictures of each.

All Mushrooms Found in Texas on either cow or horse manure.
All Mushrooms have been cleaned, and have been air drying.
Sorry If Pictures Are Bad Quality.

#1 - foenisecii , sphinctrinus , or cubensis?

Measurements: Cap Width(.5 Inches) Stem Length(Broke but was pretty long)

Cap: Medium Brown, maybe a slight bronze tint. Smooth feel. Concave/spherical.
Stem: Very thin. Slightly lighter than cap to same color. Smooth.
Gills: Seem a little spread apart (drying?) Dark Brown. Seemed to have been attached. I broke the cap slightly.
Spore Print: Dark Brown - Black

#2 - Cubensis? Seen picture of foenisecii scaled like this.

Measurements: Cap W(.75 inches)H(About 1 inch) Stem Length(Broke)

Cap: Conical. White-Tan with light brown specks(scaling?) Smooth.
Stem: Sort of Thick. Seems hollow. White-Tan color. Smooth.
Gills: Close together. Seem light brown to maybe olive color? Attached to stem.
Spore Print: No spore print. If unidentifiable, will post tommorow.

#3 - Pretty sure is cubensis / subcubensis

Measurments: Cap Width(1 Inch) Stem Length(Broke)

Cap: Spherical. Light brown - slightly goldish. Top seems a little darker, not much. Smooth.
Stem: Sort of Thick. Seems hollow. Tan/Light Brown. Smooth.
Gills: Close together. Attached to stem. Gray/black to brown.
Spore Print: Dark brown - black.

Thank You for helping me ID these mushrooms, I hope I have provided enough information for you to be able to recognize them. Chronic

If those are your guesses, I suggest you study the subject of mycology some more before you even start _suggesting_ you ingest anything. Really, none of the specimens you found even remotely resembles cubensis.

As for your specimens: from the info and the pictures you provided, I still can't tell anymore than that they're three kinds of LBMs (Little Brown Mushrooms). Try to get some better pictures (also of the habitat your specimens grow in), maybe we can attempt a guess at the genus from there...

I can't give an id on these but they are neither cube nor any other psilocybin shroom. If you find a cube it will bruise blue. I'm guessing you get no bluing from those. Brown spore prints = bad as far as I'm concerned.

Hi once again. I don't know if yall are going to read this again but I don't know what they are then.
To: Koraks, the only one that is actually a "LBM" is the first one. The second is tanish, and the third one is almost a bronze/golden color, thats why i believed it was cubensis. As for the pictures, I took them with my phone camera so they are distorted, but the FAQ said pictures don't really matter. Also, the habitat was "Texas on Cow/Horse Manure."
To: Supernova, I will try to make some spore prints and post those also. If these are not psilocybe mushrooms, what are the chance they are poisonous? I have looked all over, and I am yet to find a direct answer to this question: "Which poisonous mushrooms can grow on dung?"

Thank you both for looking at these, and I will try to get more detailed information on these mushrooms to help you identify them.

not sure how you got that out of the FAQ, common sense would indicate that they do matter...

high enough that YOU SHOULD NOT EAT THEM if you don't know what they are :smirk:

the reason people are reluctant to answer that question is that while there aren't an abundance of deadly mushrooms that grow in dung, telling (lazy/ignorant) people this could lead to them foolishly eating whatever they find growing in the pasture and probably eventually getting poisoned. dying from it is not very likely, but you could easily make yourself pretty damn sick.  if you want hunt and pick mushrooms to eat the only way to be safe is to know what you're doing.  Sounds like you're looking in the correct habitat, but you should really study the description and pics of cubensis and compare them to your specimens.  you'll see that they're not even close.

Not even close on any of the IDs. They all appear to be mixed species of Panaeolus. I suggest you do a lot more reading before you even *think* of eating mushrooms you find.

Thanks for all of the replies, I just went and picked some more, mostly the dark brown looking one. I have tried the bruising thing and not sure if it is blue or not. Is it obviously blue or slightly darker almost blackish? I did it to one and it turned reddish-brown, threw that one away. I think the dark brown ones are staining right, and I have a couple lighter ones that also did, spore prints are being made right now, so I will be able to post them soon. Also one other question, would anyone know if I can find psychedelic mushrooms besides in manure? I have 5 acres of land and i just searched it (Did not take any, just viewing). I found 3 different kinds. Besides the bulbs I saw, there were two mushrooms and both of them had white gills, which guides say are poisonous, but are there any that would possibly work? Thank you for the help, Chronic

chronic- you need a good identification book. Order Stamets "Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World" from Amazon.com. Or check around on the net for an identification key. You don't wanna be testing shrooms by ingesting them. THINK! Dead is probably not a lot of fun. I doubt you can trip on shrooms without a body.

I have taken the spore prints I could. Heh, the more I read and learn the more confused and interested I get.

#1 - New decription, found bigger mushroom, other was too small. Maybe sphinctrinus?

- Prints

Measurments:  Cap Width(1.5 inches(not same as spores)) Stem Broke Again

Cap:  Medium-Light Brown.  Outter margin lighter brown. Seems to shine a little (hygrophanous?).

Stem: Except for where attached to cap which is very light almost tanish/white, the stem is brown. Was somewhat long before I broke it. Looks fibrous at the top.

Gills: Close together, Dark Brown. Attached to Stem.

sphinctrinus = not psychoactive correct?  If this is one.

#2 - Remsembles Psilocybe aztecorum description, but was on manure.

              - Sorry Too Dry To Get Print -

#3 - Still think Cubensis.  It bruised a faded blue/black color.

                      - Better Pictures -
              - No Print, See Slight Bruising? -

Supernova:  Is that a good mushroom book?  I do need one, and I need to learn much more about mycology.

Yeah, it is a good one for actives. It has an excellent identification key in it. I'll try to answer your identification question on this one tomorrow. If you have a local college take a class in mycology. I'm probably going to take one next semester so I can learn how to identify a wider range of shrooms. I can tell you a cube in a heartbeat. Same for pan cyans now. Otherwise, I have to go to the book.

Dude. No. Not even close again.

Psilocybe aztecorum doesn't even grow in the US. Posting pictures of random mushrooms and asking if they're cubensis is just not going to work. I'm starting to get very frustrated with your posts. None of the mushrooms you've found even remotely resemeble cubensis. You've obviously no clue what you are doing.

Please do some reasearch by reading the hunting FAQ:

Hello again. I see I have been given a lot of sarcastic responses.

To Gumby: First of all, the reason I am posting on this site is because, as I stated, I am not a mycologist. So when I state "Maybe a cubensis," you guessed it, I'm still not a mycologist. And cubensis isn't the only one I asked about. Also, it doesn't seem you are doing much better in mycology seeing how you have failed to identify anything also. By the way, I know how frustrated you are with my posts, and no matter how much my thread seems to be pulling you in, you can always not read it.

To vc77: Thanks for your help.

To Sweetleaf: You should probably take an art class if you believe that blue, red, and yellow are the exact colors in which your COMPUTER has tested. But I'm sure you're right, they don't say a bruise is "black and blue" because obviosly, your test has shown us which is the REAL blue.

To Majestic: Um, thanks for reading the thread, keep wierd comments to yourself.

To supernova: Thanks for checking this out and not bein an ass like your fellow "mycologists."

Your specimens look similar to the very common, inactive Psilocybe coprophila.

Gumby's comments are due not just to your posts, but to the recent general trend of posts in this forum. There are a *ton* of people posting low quality photos of something they found and wildly guessing they're something active. Your most recent photos in this thread are at least in focus, which is a big improvement over many of the recent photos.

The FAQ and sticky thread at the top of the forum answer most of the common questions (that *still* get asked over and over) and tell those wanting an ID what sorts of things we need to see and know about to make an ID. What seems to happen is that one of the experienced people posts a thread with photos of their latest finds along with IDs. Then an inexperienced person comes along and sees that thread and uses it as a model, but requests IDs or makes wild guesses about what their fuzzy photos without descriptions are.

Gumby is a moderator in this forum, and we moderators have to go through most everything to keep the forum running as it should. So we don't really have the option of just not reading threads by certain people.

Happy mushrooming!

All psilocybe mushrooms bruise blue. (well not all of em) But not all mushrooms that bruise blue are psilocybes. Their are many species of Boletus and Lactarius that bruise blue.
