False Dichotomies
    #3351898 - 11/12/04 03:55 PM (12 years, 26 days ago)

Note: this is a spin-off from the Chris Reeve thread. Please let's not discuss him here.

There were almost a dozen replies in that thread that incorrectly believed I advocated, pessimism, hopelessness and inaction. This is known as a false dichotomy.

Either these posters are reading words not printed (assumption/hallucination) or they believe there are only two possibilities. The world is not polarized into black & white; there are innumerable possible views.

I think that you can either that this post is wrong or agree that the holocaust was a good thing.

There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

When a question is posed to the average person they answer it reflexively using emotion. They then attempt to to use their intellect to rationalize their choice. And that is why people were foaming at the mouth in that other thread. When confronted with reality they were left to sputter in impotent rage. Side note: I've been wanting to use that phrase for years and I finally worked it in!

This entire thread and indeed EVERY SINGLE ACTION MANKIND HAS EVER TAKEN was just a setup for lime-flavored Jellric to use that phrase.

Our purpose here is done. *clicks off computer*

But... but... I thought there was so much more to it than that?!

Fine, then.  :frown:

I think you intended your words to be taken in that light, so I would use the term "inspired dichotomy" instead

You're here because you know something.
What you know you can't explain,
But you feel it;
You've felt it your entire life.
That there's something wrong with the world.
You don't know what it is, but it's there....
Like a splinter in your mind...
Driving you mad.
