Popcorn moisture question
    #3350549 - 11/12/04 10:07 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I have a number of 1/2 quart jars with a 1/4 inch hole punched in the lids with polyfill filling the gap for air exhange and inoculation purposes. This is my first go at this type substrate. Im worried about moisture loss. Is it okay to let the jars colonize with just the lid and polyfill exposed? Or should I keep a layer of tin foil?
Thanks!

The lid and polyfill in the hole should be fine.

The foil is just basically an extra layer of defense.

Ive had very good success with keeping the lid on with a 1in diameter hole, layered with a lid sized peice of tyvek then sealed. Polyfill must be great considering how many people use it, but tyvek is tidy...

Yea I prefer tyvek as well, just because how neat it looks compared to a ball of fuzz.  Plus you can write on it

Yeah I like to pretend im stealing them even though noone really cares. Grab like 10 and look all sneaky, creep through the door, then run to my car and speed off.

Its pretty fun until the cops pull me over for speeding.
