Excuses when busted in the field
    #3350455 - 11/12/04 09:08 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

When you climb someone fence there's always a chance of getting busted. I'm sure everyone has their excuses made up ahead of time, right? So that if someone comes along and says what the hell are you doing in my field, you got something to say other than uh, uh, uh....

Here's a few of mine:

If it's berry season, I say I'm hunting for black berries. I make sure to eat a few while I'm out in the field so my toungue is blue and I can "prove" what I was doing.

Other times, depending where I am, I may say I just needed some quiet and I'm out for a walk... Or, I was walking out in the woods and got lost and came across this field and thought it would be the easiest way to get back to the road. Stuff like that.

So, what's your excuse(s)?

This one time I was down in Georgia, near Statesboro. Me and some buddies stopped at a small/local gas station, there we asked if there were any cows around the area..we were younger and less experienced then. This stranger said he had cows on his farm, he then invited us, saying we were polite and nobody has ever asked before. He even let us camp out over night. That was amazing.

No man! He was totally cool, listened to the Allman brother...plus I wasn't alone. Although there is a lesson here: Kids be careful, always have at least one partner on the field with you. You never know when a farmer is horny.

I tell em I'm hunting for mushrooms!  Since I'm usually walking through a horse ranches shit piles I pretty much gotta.  I just tell em I go to the local college and am doing a research paper for mycology on the study of fungus evolution, so I will be coming back on a weekly basis.  They are always cool with it

Its not a bat!(though we consider that a compliment) Its a kitten. Its a rare breed of cat, Hawiian Hairless, Kohona  a "strain" of cat we've been working with for a few years, trying to get the breed strong still.  You can hit a link to my site in my bio.

i was in a townhome colony today in between houses taking some pictures of some mushrooms that were black on top, completely black and the stem was really blue. I and this lady came out asking me what i was doing and i told her i was with the mycology group of atlanta and that i was just taking pictures and he said, "mycology?" and i said "yep, FUNGUS"! Then she said ok and went back into her townhouse. i wonder if i should be paranoid

Anyone ever thought of acting mentally handicap. I dunno, might draw attention, but you could prob get out of a tough situation that way.  :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:

LOL. I that thought actually crossed my mind, take someone and have them act mentally handicapped and say they liked horses or cows and asked if we went to look at them. Yeah, I'm going to hell for even thinking that.

Anyways, if I'm hunting cubes I take my snakehook along and ask them if they mind if we hunt for rattlesnakes. Mind you if I actually DO find a rattlesnake, you're damn right that I AM going to catch it  Trespassing is just too sketchy.

If I'm hunt weiliis and I am stopped I'll usually just think up of something on the spot. I have been stopped before and most people seem intriged by what I have to say. I'm keeping those stories for myself

One key thing is DRESS ACCORDING TO THE SITUATUION! I know we've got some uh... "confused youth" that like to dress goth or gangsta or whatever. But for christ sake, don't dress like a hoodlum if you're going hunting for mushrooms. If you're in the south, in say Georgia... Dress with some camo and maybe some UGA ware, farmers will love you. Don't dress like a metrosexual or a satan worshipper if you want your story to be believable.

One thing that is always good for hunting cubes, dress kinda country and bring some fishing poles and ask if the farmer minds if you go fishing on his property(provided he's got a pond or something).

Please don't trespass, always ask for permission if possible. Most farmers are nice guys.
