heat tolerant worms?
    #3338858 - 11/09/04 07:52 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

anyone know of any good fast multiplying worms?  looking for a good earth composting worm for vivariums and the species i have tried failed miserably except in the cold room a couple years ago.  ive tried  dew (obviously failed), red wiggler and the local big ones here in bc.  anyone know of any and where to get some?heat is not usually above 80f but it can get up to over 100 every now and then in the summer.  although its probably ay cooler on teh ground in the dirt.

thanks

hehe ya it did. do they live long indoors for you? or is it just long enough for fishing or somthing. ive managed in cooler rooms, but the summer wiped every trace of a worm out. those 6 footers in melbourne would be something else! anyway my search continues...need to find a worm expert, been having a hard time on the net.

peace.

in my garden i have some type of worm, i dont know what species, but my family aquired a batch of them through some local friends. they tolerate very high temperatures (up to 115F), even tolerate drought, pretty amazing worms. now i cant even turn up dirt with seeing all these wigglies and thinking im chopping them up with my digger. how they multiply so darn fast is way beyond me.
I even use them as food in my aquarium, the fish go crazy over it.

sorry, i had an accident and chopped the worm in two... its hard when your diggin around in the dark!!
you got me curious about my worms, it seems i'll have to do some research myself. i wanna get one of those "CAN-O-WORMS" composters for next season, it would be very, um, convenient.
sorry that not too many fine details are shown in the pictures, but best of luck mr kadakuda man!

The worms were in my kitchen composter thing, they live just fine, they travel up and down the gratings and stuff eating all sorts of things even my cat's shedded fur.

The only time they didn't live was when i kept some in a small can of compost out on my deck, they got composted themselves, but it grew some wicked mushrooms.
