Is anyone else here...
    #3349606 - 11/12/04 01:42 AM (12 years, 29 days ago)

Completely intrigued and fascinated with death? Not necessarily in a morbid way. It boggles my mind how someday all that I'm experiencing will come to an end. Whether or not there is some form of afterlife, it's fairly clear to me that reality as I experience it from within this body will come to an end. Perhaps my fascination with it is a coping mechanism to keep me from fearing it. I've spent many times contemplating the possibility of no afterlife. It's a complete mindfuck for me to imagine experiencing nothingness. I also sometimes look to quantum physics and other pioneering fields of science for possible ideas of what kind of afterlife might exist. There was actually a time in my life when I was borderline suicidal, yet now, in spite of the fact that I'm more fascinated with death now, I'm much less willing to rush it. I only get one death, so I want to make it count. Same goes for life. Someday I'll know the mystery that is death, but unfortunately I won't be able to come back and tell you guys about it.

death basically only leaves the potential for something new..I'm sure if there's some kind of afterlife we probably wont be going anywhere we haven't been before

you should try a high dose of ayahuasca

I used to have panic attacks, thinking that I was going to die.  I didn't want to die, because I had no idea what the future held.  Now, I am reconciled to the fact that some day, I am going to die, but I know that there is something "after life", and this "life" doesn't end, it just changes.

Death is just part of life, ya know.

Ha. I always think about death and usually come to the point where i have to stop thinking about it because it alters my mood intensely. I believe in merging with god after physical death and have experienced the eternal, so i'm not worried at this moment......THE moment. When someone close actually dies though, it's a whole different story. Looking at dead bodies, it makes me weird out. It's just an empty shell...

you should try a high dose of ayahuasca

Which of course, will only give you an idea what a high dose of ayahuasca is like and will tell you nothing of death.

I know what you mean. I spend much of my time simply thinking about death. Such a mystery.

How could you?

Do your nervous, immune, muscle systems shut down when you take ayahuasca?

I have an idea. Its not so much about death but more about a possible illusory life.

Maybe life is just the reflection of the death state in a sense. Maybe we're dead already and were living in a void and we still have mind (or *energy* in some sense) enough to imagine a life and we do that because like everyone says 'thatd be the worst part of dying, that we just cease to be and theres no more thought or feeling or life. Maybe we percieve that fearful death because of that lack of energy. Maybe we use all the will or energy we have to build and convince ourselves that this life is real. That would explain our lives having such personl import at least.

Its almost like time is the main contributing factor to me. Death cant exist without time, and time seems like an illusion when you try to look at it logically. Maybe time doesnt exist. Maybe weve just created time from the death-state to give us something to do, a life to live. Maybe our whole life is just a fleeting pice of the last energies from our death state. That would certainly explain the whole 'rushed' feeling we have in life, as if we havent come as far as we would have wanted no matter what weve gained...

Its almost like all the questions we can have about personal death are really questions about time. The whole 'stuck forever with no thought' would be the same idea as if you were frozen in time right now. I also personally believe its where some ideas of hell come from ie hell is endless, hell is being stuck forever, some people come back from certain rough experiences and reference 'thought loops' being 'stuck in time' in a sense.

I see death as a self-fullfilling prophecy.

But what happens to your consciousness or energy after death? Ayauasca may or may not show anything of physical death, but what about death of your ego? The death of your self?

Well this is a matter of personal belief, personally I believe we either merge with another cycle or rephase into a similiar cycle.

Ayahuasca, and most hallucinogens, causes you to focus (intensity based on substance and concentration) on the moment and regress to infancy consciousness, however, retaining past life expirences and learned abstract thought forms.

If you want my personal belief, I think that when we die, we go into a sort of "void of nothingness".. after travelling through the light.. were we "meditate" on our life lessons and sit in silent contemplation for however long is needed. Weeks or years or millenia. Then we decide to either merge as one with creation or incarnate on the physical plane again to learn some more crazy physical reality lessons. Or if you've mastered the physical plane, can live in the spiritual densities, though.. you dont die when you dont have a physical body.

My current belief is that while life and even thought goes away after death, consciousness continues on afterwards. That consciousness may or may not manifest itself in another living being afterwards.

my sentiments exactly. consciousnes lives on.. I see consciousness as being the actual soul. physical life may go away.. as it is temporary to begin with.. but spiritual life lives on.
