Peyote grafting compatability
    #3341940 - 11/10/04 01:57 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

What makes some cacti compatable for grafting and others not? For example: I can easily graft my loph pups onto pereskiopsis, but not jade. Just curious if anyone knows the specifics. Thanks

Grafting only works between closely related species. Cacti are all closely related, so you can pretty much graft any cactus to any other cactus. Jade is not a cactus but a succulent, and is not at all related to lophophora. Pereskiopsis is a true cactus, even though they don't really look like it, so in that case grafting will work.

Jade's not a true cactus, while perekiopsis is. That's why. Graft acceptibility is pretty readily done among most cacti, relatedness isn't as stringent as it is in non cacti. Jade's not a true cactus so it won't graft to it all.
