Casing 1-1 1/2" deep?
    #334901 - 06/05/01 04:45 AM (23 years, 4 months ago)

I only made my substrate layer an 1-1 1/2" deep with a 1/4" of damp verm. Will this be ok. And I put one directly in the terrarium, and the other one in my incubator with the lid on and holes poked in it.

That's a little thin for a substrate layer. It'll still work just fine, but you mushies will prob be smallish. McMan always said a 3" substrate layer is optimal.

Hello,
A magick shroom spirit in holland told me he uses that he used a 1 1/2 substrate layer with the PF strain and harvested some over 6" tall mushies with large caps. Though if the substrate layer is thin using a 50/50 casing procedure such as Ryche hawke recommends at about 1" or maybe a little more could be beneficial to mushroom size. Though the time for colonization would increase. I still believe it is probably worth the extra time to use a thicker casing layer.

The above statement is an act of fiction from the dreamworld.
