Philosophical Quotes
    #3348834 - 11/11/04 10:48 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

After read that "Quote to Ponder" thread i thought it would be cool to just post some quotes to think about that have significant meaning. I love quotes, they are utterly delicious :crazy2:.

Here are some By Henry David Thoreau, an 19th century American transcendentalist

"Life is Sweetest near the bone"

"Fault finders find fault in even paradise"

"Life is not so bad as you are"

"The sun rises on a mansion just the same as it rises on a poor house"

Post some more awesome quotes that we can ponder.  I love um

"Call it Good Time With Buds, and remember Buds has more than one meaning"

some good Nietzsche quotes:

Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.

Talking much about oneself can also be a means to conceal oneself.

there are countless good quotes out there so lets hear some more.

but here's a quote from me. "People who overindulge in the words of others have nothing to say for themselves."

"Among creeds and castes, and all wars and differences between nations, have arisen from narrowness and slowness of perception. Still, were a Buddhist to come to me saying, 'Our Lord Buddha was the only teacher,' I would answer, 'Verily;' and if a Hindu cried to me that Krishna is the ideal master I would say, 'You speak rightly.' And if a Christian should declare that Christ is the highest of all, I would reply, 'Undoubtedly,' for it is the nature of human beings to consider as best that which they can idealize best. But if anyone came to me saying, 'I cannot believe in all this talk, for I can only recognize the same truth in each one of these,' l would say, 'You, my friend, are the one who really knows, for you have understood and unveiled the real secret of God's Nature.' As Rumi says, 'The Sufi takes the meat, leaving the bones for others to fight over."

-Hazrat Inayat Khan

I think this one is particularly appropriate at this time..Hell, in ALL times:

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor,
for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword.

It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind.
And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils
with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry.

Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism,
will offer up all of their rights unto the leader
and gladly so.

How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."

"We have nothing to fear..but fear itself."

Franklin D. Roosevelt
