As for why the wealthy populated areas voted democratic and the rural poorer areas voted republican, I don't really think their economic views had a lot to do with this. You look too much into the average American.
A strongly Christian anti-gay NRA-loving poor farmer would vote for Bush not caring for the tax cuts really as they are for people making over $200,000 mostly, but rather because he sees Bush as moralistic and Christian, protecting gun rights against the evil liberals. Not to mention keeping those pesky God-hating homosexuals from being recognized as socially normal. An agnostic liberal gun-control environmentalist would vote for Kerry because they see Bush as either an idiot, too religious, or too harmful to the environment. It is all in the personalities that rural areas and urban areas breed that often make those areas so different in their political candidate they support, even if it doesn't go logically with the economic plans the candidate has.
Though this is generalized extremely, but it does seem to get the main point. Republicans' personalities just resonate more with the rural folk while the democrats' personalities resonate with the urban folk

Those Muslims who - believe 70 virgins await them (as long as their male) as martyrs, blow themselves and innocent civilians up, purposely target children, think it's acceptable to deny women basic human rights, allow themselves to be ruled - and impose it on others - by religious leaders WHO WEREN'T ELECTED, think it's allah's will for them to rape women they take as slaves, and see if you can follow me here = D U M B

? I don't know why, but its been demonstrated that it happens and can't be avoided.
It could be for a number of reasons. For one, consider that presidents last 4-8 years. It takes 10-15 years to see benefit from free trade, while the benefits are instant from fair trade, but degrade heavily over time. Are you going to pass something which will alienate people from you and your party? No
Not like it will happen soon, its projected at about 200 years from now for the US.

I am confused as to why you've replied with irrelevant links or pictures to all of my recent PAL posts, but whatever.

I dunno about that tax loop hole thing. That was one of Kerry's big things he wanted to do. He wanted to close the loop holes in a "nanosecond". Bush was against that.
