Will I get enough humidity?
    #3347172 - 11/11/04 04:37 PM (12 years, 23 days ago)

I am using a 50 gal tub for my fruiting chamber. I am spawning WBS to poo/straw. I have a casing tray that basically fills the bottom of tub, leaving about 1/2" around all the sides. I am going to use perlite humidification with some air stones. Will I experience any problems with humidifying my chamber with this? Do I need to find a smaller tray to allow more to be exposed?

Don't have any direct experience with this, but I bet it will be fine.

perlite sucks, but it owns for humidity. you'll be fine. When i say it sucks I just mean its messy as fuck as you'll see when removing your casing to harvest.

You're covering most of your perlite, so you're not going to get much use out of putting it there. The more perlite surface area, the more water can humidify the air.

I believe you could actually use the whole container as it's own self-contained casing for a bulk grow like that... you should check out the teks on the website... i'll look for this for you though.

That'll tell you alof of things you need to know about humidification techniques. You ideally want to have as much perlite exposed as possible. It's doable, but I'd suggest a smaller casing container.

Zero will this rule of exposure also apply on geolite in a PmP with a large casing or multiple casings covering 85% of the surface?

I made a rack out of mesh that keeps stuff off the hydroleca (clay stuff) As per Silven idea. Works pretty well, just get some cheap mesh at a garden centre and fold it back on itself a few times to fit, an inch or so clearance is better than nothing. Should work on perlite too, Don't forget to spray it with something nasties don't like first.

while that is true zero, I do believe the humidity will stay relatively high even though most of the surface is being covered. This is because the large SA of the casing will also provide humidity. Of course he will have to mist but everything should be fine.

How bout if I suspended the casing tray about 2" above the perlite, I'm sure that combined with the air stones providing air through it would be sufficient, do ya think?

if you suspended it like hambo suggested it definetly would for sure because the total surface area is there. Before diving into all that work I would try it alone with just the air stones. Most of my perlite surface area is taken up and it stays constant at 99% RH. If its not broke dont fix it. So try it first, if then it doesnt work, fix it by suspending it in the air.

Well suspending it would keep my big heavy tray from submerging into the crappy perlite.

I have a similar question. Im going to use a 1 bye 1 1/2 bye 1 1/2 (feet) plastic rubber made container(used to store clothes in) If i put about 2 inches of perlite at the bottom, moisten it,then out the cakes directly ontop and close it, will this be enough moisture. In the FAQ it says to do this in the simple cumbenin technique, it says nothing about opening it to let out air or adding more water, so its a one step deal and just let it grow, or do i need to add water or nething?

Ah thats a kinda smart! Mesh is like the "walls" of chicken cages?
BUt since casings do not crave THAT much humidity as cakes do, I should maybe try first before I "try to fix something which is not broken'....

If you use some mesh, try to use plastic. Metal ones tend to rust after awhile.
