Popcorn has a red tint in incubation. Normal or not?????
    #3346202 - 11/11/04 12:44 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I have some jars of popcorn incubating. They some of the colinized cornels have a red tint to them under the white mycelium. Is this normal. I had two jars out of 6 that got green mold. Threw them away.

my popcorn can sometimes turn a brownish red, I might call it Indian Red. But that usually only happens when there is a moisture loss.

I have had lipstick mold and it sucks ass, and is pretty obviously a contam.

Mold or bacteria, Ive seen some nasty bacterial infections on grain that was red. If you lost 6 jars to mold youve got alot of work to do on your sterile technique. Are you pcing?

This has been observed as a quirk with popcorn. I had it, with all my jars, and for a brief while with a g2g transfer to corn wherever the myc touched the new corn. Don't worry about it. Do a search on red popcorn.

I too experienced popcorn turning red during the colonization without being contaminated.

If you're not pcing, then you're chances of getting un-contam.ed jars are slim to none, gl
