Well... we do. We add BRF to verm for PF Cakes. People add high carb things like grains or rice to straw and woodchips.

PF Cakes are like a soiless growinf medium in gardening I think.

I've wondered why it's not feasable to add more nutritous substrate to a casing after the nutes are obviously spent. But I haven't birthed my first cake yet (two days until) so I have no clue.

Well, the reason that it's not a smart idea to add more nutritous substrate to a casing is because it's EXTREMELY easy to become contaminated and ruined, ruining the casing.

That's it though? So if you are going to throw out a casing because it's spent you could give it a try anyways, or is there some better use for a spent casing that I haven't come across yet.

A spent casing can be cause for contamination..it only takes a week to make new jars knocked up with liquid cultures..why not toss it? Bury it out back and you can get a nice outdoor bed going. Thats the only use for them really is outdoors where they have a chance at fighting off contams.Adding nutes will only cause contams to get the nutes because the myc is old and tired and wont consume it. They already have gotten the most of the energy by the time they finish colonizing the original nutes..I dont think once they start fruiting that they will actually do anything with extra nutes if it is fresh enough to anyway.
