well tehre are people sprouting them, the thing i have noticed is that it dies fairly quickly after sprouting.  seeds are certainly fertile, jsut possibly weak.  or we jsut cant get its conditions right, which is what i think is the problem.  i only sprouted one that died in 2 days.  im waiting on more seeds to give it another whirl.

Neuro had some decent luck with it then it died or came or something.  lets just hope he comes here and refreshes us/me

If you buy Rue seeds some will be viable, the thing is, it is VERY hard to get them to grow indoors. Do a search, you'll find plenty in this forum.

They have to be grown in the sun all the time. Shade will kill them. Also, over watering will kill them. Very tough to grow unless you live in the right climate.

theres one good thread. i thought neuros pics were in tehre...guess not i dunno cant find em. mine died right about where Hooty's are in the pic on page 3. dunno if it was lack of light or too much moisture...very well both. only had it under 2 18" daylights and it was fairly wet.

I also had a potfull of syrian rue sprouts, and they all died really quickly despite my efforts. Very tricky to get past the seedling stage.

Mine are in a different thread, if anyone does a search of EG of posts made by me, and main posts only you should fine em.

My seeds were all germinated indoors, and taken outdoors all summer did just fine, indoors always failed like they dampened off.

Anyone have an HPS lamp and perhaps interested in throwing some under an HPS indoors and see what happens?

With a heat pad on, in a glass case and sprayed with pond water.

I sprinkled the seeds on the surface to let them germinate.

Let them go under the 150 watt slightly turned on an angel away.

When they started sprouting I turn them up to 33 degrees c.

Planted all the seedlings in the soil.

Gave them a few for bits.

While germination I kept humidity high.

Now I am giving them more light.

2 dozen are growing. All finely spaced out.

All but 2 seeds did not germinate.

I guess I am lucky.

long ago (mid '90s) I managed to grow a small syrian rue plant. It was a small bush, (less than 20cm high) with a distinctive smell. After the first year, it turned brown and woody. In the second year I had new growth from the dead looking stem. After that season the plant stayed brown and a year later I decided it was definately dead and threw it out.

On a dead plant the leaves are light brown and papery, but it's hard to tell if the plant is really dead or just dormant.

EDIT: (extra information)

I grew the plant from seed behind a south facing window. I used a 50/50 cactus soil, sand mixture. At the time I thought that using poor soil was the reason for my failure, but reading all your experiences, it turns out that they are just very difficult to grow indoors.
