Patching Question (After Harvest)
    #3342145 - 11/10/04 04:39 PM (12 years, 27 days ago)

should a layer of 50/50, straight verm, or straight coir be added to the freshly harvested casings?

should a full layer 1/4" be added over the case or just from the harvested pinsets??

Should I try not to patch around new pins??

Can I mist even with the beginnings of a new flush already starting??

i wouldn't mist if another flush is on the way. Case the spots with whatever casin u normally use. Dont make it too thick since it's an indent in your casing already...

yeah thats a problem for me too. they say to keep your casing moist all the time and especially before and after flushes. but will I not be damaging knots or tiny pins that are still somewhat invisible to my eye, while I think "I should keep it moist with mists" and wait for pins to appear..?

This is my problem. I didnt cover the sides of the case and I had mushies in the sides so I tipped the case over and pulled them off. But since it had separated from the side anyway I packed some coir in there. I might have covered a like one or two pins. Is this ok? Or are they going to rot and kill my case??

You should ALWAYS be misting. If there are primordia/pins on the casing you just need to be misting very lightly using the finest mist you can from about 2 feet away spraying over the casings and letting the mist fall onto the casings. It won't damage them.

One more thing here, though... When the pins are just forming, be gentle or don't spray if your spray bottle doesn't put out super fine mist. Some pins form in the smallest cracks and just below visible top layer. I'm really really careful when first pins show up as they tend to show up on the aggresive growth, first. Once the pins are fairly visible, continue usual spraying.
