ya something is wrong. You should/might have a gauge and regulator/weight. No steam should be coming out. If steam is coming out you're missing something or a seal is broken somewhere. Can you take a picture?

The other vent - (the little red one) is a "safety release valve", it should only be releasing steam if the weight cannot release the pressure for some reason. So yours might just be stuck in an up position, or you have the burner up way to high. I just read my pressure cooker manual.

no i cant take a picture and it only came with the weight. even though i "PCed" for about 70 minutes do u think this will suffice? the verm/brf was not presterilized. should i boil them once more just to be safe?

maybe i hda the burner up too high. i started PCing at medium heat for 15 minutes. then i turned it up to 8 (one less than HI) and i could hear it boiling but very little steam coming out of the hole. i figured i should turn it up to high because the weight wasnt rattling. ( i didnt get a manual cuz i got it off ebay. shouldve just got a nice one ) so i alternated between 8 and HI for awhile because i was worried it getting too much pressure. eventually it stopped steaming so im assuming the water is gone so i cooked it for another 10 min then turned it off. it's been cooling for an hour now, but the PC is still warm to the touch.

Hmm.. I'm not sure but I think you might be missing your air vent. Its supposed to pop up after you put your pressure regulator or 'rocker' on, so you know that it's building up pressure.

Try looking on the manufacturers website and see what piece your missing if any.
