been hunting for years never seen these before?
    #3341768 - 11/10/04 03:27 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

like i said in the title, been hunting for years never seen these before but then agian i have just moved here to oklahoma from the gulfcoast so that is probably why "anyway" i was out at a local park on a nature trail and noticed these guys coming up thru the leaves on the ground i dont suspect they are active but i am curious as to what they are
sustrate:in the mix of oak leaves by a pond (no apparent attachment to anything e.g.leaves,wood,dung)
spore print: rusty in color
size: about a inch tall cap size is about a half an inch(but they were not mature)
gill color: hopefully you can tell by the pic but if not it was a blueish green
cap color : golden yellow with the blueish green showing thru the edges
cap shape: convex with a slight nipple(when young) seems to open out nicely when mature with the nip. gone
bruising: none
i suspect they maybe i type of gym i just havent seen before considering the sporeprint and the fact there are so many subs out there but them being found in a oak grove throws it off for me
anyway just curious as to what i found

they are not active and do not look good to eat.. If you are extremely interested, then get off your ass and get a degree in mycology. Or simply spend 15 minutes searching for the features of the mushroom:p

They are either poisonous suplhur tufts (hypholoma fasciculare; taste is very bitter, use it as a check) or psilocybe capnoides (which is muc more unlikely). I'm amazed that someone who has hunted for several years has never seen sulphur tufts before.

Dude, I believe you, don't worry  I'm just surprised, that's all  But don't you know this species from pictures in books or on this board? Where I live (Holland, southern half) they are the most common species of mushrooms. They occur for several months during autumn and winter, so around here, it's really hard to miss them
