    #3340851 - 11/10/04 12:01 PM (13 years, 12 days ago)

hello, a friend of a friend is having a problem with his casing. he is using wheatstraw as substate and it ran throught the straw great. he then cased it with a peat/lime/ver mix. ph is balanced. he get mycelium growing into the casing in small patches but within a day it dies off. then it starts to come back again only to die off again. this has been going on for about a week. he have tried everything he knows. temp is correct, humidity is correct(per the mushroom cultivator). what could the problem be? please, any help is greatly apprieciated. thanks all

what do you mean it dies off? pictures would be super, super helpful on this one.

the myc grows and then dies? what kind of peat/lime are you using? too much lime could burn the hell out of the mycleium, chemicals in the peat could burn the myc too...

Has your casing been misted? If the casing layer is to dry, then maybe thats why its not colonizing. I definately agree with Zero on this one, it sounds like then lime might be killing off the myc...
