I presume you've made up your mind the article is wrong and are now seeking out articles to prove you are right?

that is typically how one tests a hypothesis. you are the one who has accepted it without proper scrutiny.

With an article by a journalist from the washington post?

Have you even READ the original report?

no, i mean you assume it to be false and set out to disprove it. if you can't, then there's a good chance that it is true. it didn't take me very long at all to find some information about the study that casts doubt on the 100,000 number.

yes, i have read the study, and having read of the shoddy methodolgy, i'm even less convinced of the accuracy of the number.

Yeah I can. Gotta head out for a few hours, though. I'll dig them up when I get back. There is no shortage of them -- the article is pretty much an embarassment to all involved.

yes, i have read the study

Hang on a minute mush, an hour ago you started a thread asking "Where did this figure come from". Now you've "read the study" and are making comments on it's "shabby methodology"?

Slow down.

Lies can take many forms such as religious truths, just about anything spoken by a politician and statistics.

Okay, here is one of the most recent ones of the dozen or so I've seen already. You can find dozens more (all pointing out pretty much the same things) by Googling something like Iraq Lancet 100,000 flawed methodology and going from there. The article was a total joke and a HUGE embarassment to the reputation of the Lancet, who let themselves be manipulated by a partisan hack. They waived their usual careful peer review process in the rush to publish before the election, and are now pretty red in the face over it. The hit to their reputation will linger a long, LONG time.

It seems what the study actually claims is that there is a 95% chance that somewhere between 8000 and 194000 Iraqi civilians died as a result of the war.

Now that's what I call an informative conclusion!

I don't think we have very good information on the actual number of Iraqis killed as a result of the war, but most sources seem to agree that its around 15-25 thousand.

it was an estimate, and it was published as such

you know like the published estimates of the hundreds of thousands of iraqis killed by saddam hussein, or the estimates of "thousands of tons" of biological and chemical weapons in iraq that people here had no trouble swallowing (kinda hypocritical for them to attack this estimate now when they themselves had no qualms about swallowing bullshit estimates).

the difference is that this estimate of civilian casualties came with very clear disclaimers about the limitations of its methodology, while the intelligence estimates about the WMD were presented as fact by the Bush administration and others in their push for the iraq invasion.

and btw, the figure might not be that far from the truth. does anyone really know how many civilians have been killed in iraq? it is just as likely that the actual figure is closer to 100,000 than the oft quoted 10,000 - 15,000.

I have just brought the original thread on this subject back to the top of the page. Alex took part in that discussion as well. His intellectual dishonesty is yet again exposed. He deliberately hid iinformation he was aware of to make his usual anti-American point.

What are you trolling about now? What did I "deliberately hide" exactly?

You sound almost as confident about this as when you spent 6 months telling everyone about WMD in Iraq
