Fruiting temps for Cambodia in PMP
    #3339823 - 11/10/04 03:13 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

First time poster, here goes nothin'...
So my grandpappy's pet crab decided to try growing. Been reading a whole hell of a lot. Got 2 syringes of Cambodians from the Hawk's Eye. It just began to snow yesterday, so the temperatures are dropping real fast. He's going to be growing in a room where temps vary from about 60-70degF, so he, the crab that is, decided to build a TiT for incubation, and a PMP w/ an aquarium heater inside the geolite layer for fruiting. The Hawk's Eye site says that Cambodians can both fruit and incubate in quite a large temperature range, though they are generally heat-loving. The question is this: What temperatures should my grandpappy's pet crab aim for during colonization and during fruiting for the Cambodia strain of P.C.?
I pass on in advance my grandpappy's pet crab's sincerest thanks.

~84?F for incubation and ~76?F for fruiting.

On second thought: from the hawk's eye site: "For colonization 75F-80f, not much higher because they throw off a lot of heat". Given this info, is your estimate still fine?

IME with the Cambodians, 86F is optimal for colonization, and 73-75F for fruiting, then again, that's been my experience with all the cubes. Good luck.

I dunno about that..

I've heard that "the mycelium give off heat" thing quite a bit, but I wonder its validity.. I mean, it makes sense I guess.. metabolism does in some cases produce heat.

Anyway, the thermistor from my temperature gauge is taped to the side of a jar. This gives me the most accurate readings. So even if the mycelium is producing heat, it should still be closer to the actual substrate temperature than air temperature.

There is very little heat created from mycelium... The thing about incubation in jar is that heat is transferred out very fast. There is nothing holding the heat in. In cases of casings, there is tiny build up of heat... maybe 1-2F at most. It will depend on how thick the substrate and casing layers are...

In an incubator with fluctuating temp, the core temp will lag, but in an incubator with constant temp, temp will be very even throughout the substrate. So, try to get it around 84F(82-86 is good).

Good luck

Sam

it can take a couple of weeks if the substrate isnt 100% colonized on the inside
as well as whats visible, expect it to run from 1-2 weeks and hope for sooner.
this is of course dependant on your setup and how far into the substrate the
mycelium has gotten.
