Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.... doesn't that mean that if your religion includes... say... using an illegal narcotic, that the people can't do anything about it?

yeah sure, but say I wanted to create my cannibalistic, sadistic torture religion?

Basically the short answer is that the gov't curbs freedom of religion, speech, etc. when it deems it necessary due to those freedoms trampling on the rights of others.

You have establish with the goverment that your religous beliefs are justified.Therefor although we do enjoy more freedom in America than anyone else in the world,we are far from free.Think about it,in one way or another,just about every single thing we do is either controlled or regulated in some way by the goverment.And thats just based on what we actually know about.Im sure that big brother is controlling alot more than we know.The only true freedom one can achieve is death.

So called "Freedom of Religion" does cover drugs, if I'm not mistaken, but only on Indian land, and that's only because we feel band about raping and pillaging(spl?) thier land
