Gulf Coast pinning pic "dead thread"
    #3338781 - 11/09/04 09:17 PM (12 years, 29 days ago)

My Gulf Coast is pinning now and I was wondering what is the prime time to take them ? I have done searches and havent come up with much on this outside of the "veil" breaking and that being a sign of finish !
Also a question on the variety Gulf Coast is.....is it a cyan pan sub what? I didnt find that either!
I bought a variety pack from TLG.COM I think that I should have bought a couple of gc first and master on breed before having 60 jars of all the kinds I got!
I have 2 of this cake pinning 2 of this kind blah to much going on really if you ask me!
My pmp is only putting out 85 rh and but 80 degrees temp! I cant get my rh up any more! Without misting it is impossible!
But outside of that my pmp is fine and my cakes are growing uncontrolably quick

? #1 pinning time how long?
? #2 what variety is gulfcoast? sub pan cyan?
? #3 has anyone seen a cake fuzz like that before?

I threw this away but wow what a bad hair day!

here is my updated pic of them........you all think there done from the look and the curling up of the veil right!
As you can see from the pictures this is the 3rd day of pinning, since first being seen! Quite an impressive species to grow so quick!

Jamiek, pmp recommends water level to be about 1 inch below top of geolite, and it recommends cakes it go straight on top of the geolite rather than in jarlids (except when using perlite instead of geolite). I'm a noob, but was wondering your reasoning for keeping the water level somewhat higher than the pmp tek recommends and for using jarlids under the cakes.

Those things look hacked up. I hope you got all the toxins from the contams out of your cakes.

Not seeing spots of contam anymore does not mean you got the toxins out.

I know this is like a dead thread, but I saw some info I'd like to contradict and point out..

First the questions... #3. You need to pay more attention. Don't let contam get that far. Try to keep a closer eye on things next time.

Second, that updated pic looks good, but cake looks mangled. I think it's from losing water content. You need to dunk/roll that, or else, the longevity of that cake will.. well.. you are probably there already.

The newb thing with PMP. You don't have to put them on geolite. As a matter of a fact, I would recommend otherwise, because you want to have a nice layer of verm on the bottom which the cake can grow into. This will help immensely with water delivery.

Anyways, congrats!

Sam

Sam, RE: the verm layer on top of geolite: So 4 inches geolite, 3 of them under water, and a layer of verm on top. Questions:
1) how thick a layer of verm,
2) Soak the verm layer before putting it in?
3) Sterilize verm layer before putting it in?
4) Replace verm layer how often? After every batch? After every flush?

Lower the water level a half inch and this may sound funny bnut your humidity may go up.
