Interesting thing about Germination Noticed.

This guy shot up some quart jars of WBS. He said he always removes 95-99% of sunflower seeds.
He said he was monitoring germination closely and after 2.5 days he said the first signs of growth appeared. The interesting thing about this was that the growth was started and only on the sunflower seeds.
This is an interesting observation. Comments and your own experiences?

I believe the reason for removal is contams often will get to the WBS easier otherwise. I havn't used WBS before so I'm not talking from experience. It would almost make sense though since they cause contamination quicker in general that they would "contaiminate" with mycelium quickly as well. I thought the reason was sunflower seeds harboring more endospores to begin with though..well either way different seeds should have different nutes so it would make sense that some germ the spores first. Ah well like I said no experience with this so not much input..just smoking and typing and killing time until my eyelids want to fall asleep..I'll leave your thread alone to get some hopfully real responses now

I buy the bird seed with no sunflower seeds if I can find it sunflower seeds tend to contam very quickly with a fuzzy growth if your friends growth is at injection points then id say no problem but if sunflower seeds not at or near point of injection become fuzzy good chance its a contam

How was the water content ? a bit dry or a bit wet ?
the shells from the sunflower seeds are softer and soak more water than the tiny millet seeds...
Just a thought.

After playing with a few brands of wbs Kramer now uses millet. Just as good or better than wbs(millet is the main ingrediant in most wbs anyhow).
