Fallujah long-term plan?
    #3337088 - 11/09/04 02:07 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

A v-e-r-y expensive and major offensive that seems to be just for show. All of this force to kill maybe 50 insurgents and a few dozen civilians and lots of trees, bird baths and office buildings.

When the insurgents get nearly cornered, all they have to do is hide their arms and fade into the general population to fight another day.

Once the US "controls" the city, then what? Does it stay cordoned off forever or do they eventually reopen the roads, in which case the insurgents will relocate and fight elsewhere. We cannot occupy it indefinitely.

This seems like another piss-poorly planned operation as to what happens AFTER the fighting?

Do we repeat this ad nauseum in each and every city until we go bankrupt or get frustrated and bomb entire cities to "Protect the Iraqi people"?

The last I heard it was more like 4000 insurgents but who's counting?

I think Dumbya's only plan for everything in Iraq was summed up in those poorly chosen words:
"Bring 'em on"

I have no reference, it's just what I heard. They reported that there were 10,000 marines and soldiers surrounding 4000 dug-in insurgents.

Some 10,000-15,000 U.S. troops have surrounded Fallujah, along with allied Iraqi forces, according to the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. George Casey. Commanders estimate around 3,000 Sunni fighters are in Fallujah, perhaps around 20 percent of them foreign Islamic militants.

They did the same thing in Samarra a few months ago. As of last week the "insurgents" were making attacks there with impunity.

It seems like last ditch tactics. They know Iraq is out of control and think empty gestures like this will impress the public back home.

What a fucking comedy act. You guys can probably barely plan an efficient trip to the grocery store let alone an invasion of a city. And you have no information whatsoever. You just naturally assume it is poorly conceived, poorly planned and poorly executed. Unbelievable.

18 months ago the number of insurgents was estimated at a few thousand. A year and a half later the number is estimated at about 25,000. Does this seem successful to you? Is the plan "working"?
