Once it starts it usually doesn't go away. Standard advice: get it FAR away from anything else you are growing, remove infected area, and spray with peroxide. Best thing to do is not get cobweb in hte 1st place. infrequent air exchange and too much moisture are frequent causes. Also EVERY TIME I open a grow chamber I spray the inside with 50/50 distilled water/peroxide.

thanks guys...i still have faith though. is 2 inches of perlite too much? i read that even 1 is enough. how about cutting the cobweb, taking the perlite out, and starting anew with and inch of fresh, then add 10:1 water/peroxide-little less than half inch?

Perlite? where did come from?
For PMP or perlite humidification, you should have at least 2" of it so you can maintain 1" water level. Using 3" perlite and 1.5" water would be better IMO.

Perlite is the bottom of this casing right? To soak up excess water?
As opposed to a PMP or perlite humidification setup where it actually provides the humidification through transpiration.
correct me if I'm wrong...

I think hes talking about the bottom layer of his casing being perlite. Not a great idea in my opinion...If I were to even try a bottom layer of perlite I would place verm underneath it to absorb standing water, initially making the perlite useless in the first place. If I were to find the culpurate involved in this cobeweb infestation id blame the perlite.

i'm using perlite humidification through transpiration. another question. I'm off to get a heating pad for underneath the tub. What can you do/buy that turns whatever you use for temp regulation on and off once it gets to the ideal temp?

tub is 1 by 2 feet. 8 inches tall. i have 2 inches of perlite and 1 inch water. 50/50+ casing mix top and bottem layers. substrate is about 2 inches.
casing's on top of the perlite and bubble wands in the tub. I did not mix peroxide in with the water. That would have definately helped my case. no pun intended. i hope this helps, sorry for the confusion!

yeah that's always a good way to start off a post(for future refrence).
Here's my advice...
Ditch that perlite (or sterilize it the oven).
Bleach the growbox.
Peroxide the casing (a light misting is plenty).
Next time find a box about the lenght and width of the casing (with enough headroom) and put it in there with NO perlite for humidification. A good casing will provide the humidity all by itself.
I case like this...
dump the spawn into the bottom of a clear container and case. cover with plastic and incubate. when the myc pokes thru, take off the plastic. The container for the casing is the entire bottom of the fruiting chamber. If its big enough no humidification (aside from an occasional misitng) is required.
hope that helps...

perlite humidification is fine. You don't need to ditch it.
Cobweb will invade whether you have perlite or not. What you need to do is clean. A fresh start would be great, but may not be feasable. You do need to isolate that casing, though.
You can't over humidify. I have my casing in PMPs running at 99%.
The thing you really want to do is clean your room completely. Go nuts with bottles of peroxide. Cobwebs spread via spores and peroxide is great for that. Use straight peroxide and spray bottle. Clean everywhere, every nicks and cranny. Under the drawers needs particular attention.
Also, you might want to consider changing over to PMP with inline filters. That'll be better than fanning open air.
Then you need to sterilize the perlite, tub, casing container and everything else. Use bleach solute 1/25th strength and soak for few hours then thorough rinsing.
I saw a cobweb on the plant on our balcony and I went through 2 bottles of peroxide. You really have to keep things clean.
Good luck

you're great dude, thanks a bunch. Here's my plan.
My tub is in the closet by the way. Definately Peroxide the hell out of the closet. Clean the room, spray, wipe clean EVERYTHING i can see and think of...with peroxide. how about lysol and shit like that?
I think what gave me the cobweb in the first place was not fanning sanitarily. I'm under heavy financial constraints, and i know that cutting corners can end in dissaster, but could you explain the inline filter idea? If i didn't have to worry about openinng up the pod it'd be freaking awesome. But only if it isn't going to cost a ton. If not, what do you use to fan?
How should i sterilize the perlite and everything else. Do you mean sterilize the perlite and everything with bleach? What do you mean by bleach solute?
When everything's back in, i'm gong to cut out the cobweb, spray with peroxide. how many sprays? Also. If the inline filter plan isn't feasible, how often is fanning needed and should i spray afterwards with ALL peroxide, 50/50, or 10:1...and how much...i don't want to halt the mycelium growth.
anything else i missed?
All your suggestions have been great and my mind is going back to ease. The myc is starting to finally come through...i don't want to lose this casing, it's my first, and i've been learning a hell of a lot, and am glad i ran into these problems because i've realized what NOT to do. All you guys have been awesome, so thanks again...

For cobwebs, don't use lysol. Peroxide works. Lysol is more expensive and can have an impact like mutants.
inline filter? you can buy them from fishie stores. Not very expensive... but since you are under financial contraints, here's a design posted by Hyphea. It's the last post in the thread.

getting rid of cobweb can be easy. mist with 50/50 peroxide and water for 2 time a day for one day. the second day mist once with the prementioned mix. then, the second treatment of the day add a small amount of baking soda to the mix. it changes the ph enough that the cobweb doesn't come back but not enough to hurt anything else. lightly mist, don't soak.

thanks man, just a few questions on my mind then
should i cut out any cobweb i DO see? or don't bother with the risk of another contam in case something unsterile.
is it alright to use silicone instead of hot glue on the film canisters?
how much is a "small" amount of baking soda. A teaspoon, or 3 a couple boxes?
this may seem tedious, but when spraying, what's considered a light mist? ---> 3-4 sprays a foot or two above the casing?
finally, from what i'm doing with everything as i explained a few posts up-a definate improvement in my mushies environment?
thanks!
