stalled cakes put into pmp question
    #3336886 - 11/09/04 01:12 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

why do they seem to do good if not better (depending on the incub/jar environment) when half colonized cakes get put into the pmp?

what do you mean by "do good?"

If you birth a half colonized cake it gets a lot more oxygen to the myc. Growth speeds up with better air exchange. However this is the LAST thing you want to do. the uncolonized surface of the cake is very prone to contams (thats why it was in the jar).

backwards... fresh air lowers CO2 level. Normal air is about 500ppm CO2. I think the ideal condition for vegetative growth is at 15000ppm CO2.

And yeah... don't birth half colonized cakes. You are taking a big big risk. Inside of the cake would not be colonized, either. Growth might even be cobweb.

Ah, okay.  You gotta do what you gotta do...  But birthing half colonized cakes is still off my recommend list.

Next time, use Max Fruiting formula.  That'll take care of guessing game some Teks call for.  I think it's ridiculous to tell newbies to eyeball water content.

If I ever had a half colonized cake that stalled I would open the jar, take it outside and dump it in an outdoor patch.

Not worth getting contam spores all through my grow room.

Bad idea and all I see is trouble coming from it.  Maybe it will work.. maybe it won't.  Not worth the risk IMO.  The last thing I want to do is spend an entire day lysoling my house to kill all the green mold spores.
