general question

i am on my first grow, and am using the basic pf-tek method.
my jars are in the incubation period and are starting to turn white. looking back, i did a few stupid things that may have been somewhat unsterile (however prior to PCing).
now the questions, some spots of my growing mycellium look as though they are fibers. i wish i had a digital camera to explain, but it looks as though the edge of part of the growth is a bunch of very fine string protruding from the base.
imagine a the end of a fiberoptic cable, that is kind of how it looks in part.
is this how the mycellium grows, or is this contamination?
thanks for any help.
