My Bestest and Biggest Ever Cyan Patch of 2004 (Updated)
    #3333660 - 11/08/04 03:07 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

Well gang, Jackpot is at the moment.

I was taking a stroll and came across soem new spots not known before and a few already known. Some came from nearby the first ones. I have 60 pictures from this large patch and am going to now post 7 and later today another seven affter some responses. The pictures will get better as I clean them up in fotoshop and reduce their size for posting.

I, of course, will not post them all. That comes later when I post more than 500 greatest cyan images at my web-site in about a week, after I finish work on my art section.
\Here are seven from this morning.

Be sure to click on image3 to Enlarge.

From a patch near an older patch I already knew about.

From the big patch

Check out the quarter on the large cyanescens cap. God is it big. The Cap. Not the quarter.

And finally for now:

A Handful of Cyans.

Mj

AS I noted above, later tonight I will post anopther seven images from the day's giant patch.

They are hygrophanous. That means they change color when drying. Usually to a deer-straw yellow color from caramel to olive-brown. Sometimes the bluing reaction mixes with the strraw yellow color and creates a deep sea green, or marine green tinges, in the caps on both P. cyanescens and on th caps of P. stuntzii/P.fimetaria.

Hygrophanous is just but one of the many characteristics of the genus Psilocybe, of which there are more than 115 species with psilocine/psilocybine, etc., and about 85 species which are inactive.

I noticed that how much the color of the cap changes outside depends on the weather, and how fast it changes when it dries depends on how fast you dry it. When I dry em right away fast, they get very very light, but when I wait for a few hours first, they stay darker after drying.

Thanks Cardboard. I was beginning to worry about the patches with all of the woodchip thiveing and the not using scissors at apatches or people who do not have the fingernails to snap them in half.

I will post more images in a few fdays. Have about 40 more images or so.

Funkyshroom: Read the rules. Make a new thread for your mushrooms in the Mushroom ID subforum at the top of the page.
And whatever you do, DO NOT eat any unidentified mushroom.

I can't help thinking that I could show you some p.fonesecii that look an aweful, aweful lot like that (see my thread "What is the Truth about Panaeolina (Psilocybe) Fonesecii ?").
