I gotta say that brf and 50/50 is just fine. I got super results from it but on the other hand I couldnt in my wildest dreams compare it to hyphae or his mentor. Good Job on that BTW.

Oops. ZX , just got pins and I just started a new thread, hopefully some helpful info will come there. I'll be posting some pics as it goes on though, everything seems straight atm. How do you mean, borderline?

Use the aquarium heater to make a tub in tub, it will work much better then the heat bomb.

What about packing the substrate in casings? Is it permissible to pack your fully colonized substrate to fit more in a single casing (doesn't it all grow together anyway?), or do you still want the airy fluffyness that comes from just breaking the pieces into little chunks and loosely arranging?

what's the point of packing the substrate again?  More substrate?  Why?

But to answer your question... you can if you want, but no reason to.

If you want to benefit from more, make a larger casing or thicker substrate.  Lack of benefits beyond what's equivalent of normal 2" would still be the same.  In addition, you'll have more negative effects from dense substrate which include less space for gas/water in the substrate and harder for mycelium to draw and transport nutes/water due to stunted growth from lack of gas/water in the substrate.  The distance the network has to cover to deliver nutes is not as important as how many cells have to be involved to transport them.

So, if you want to put more substrate, try getting a larger container by length or width, not depth.

Good luck

Sam

The only thing you do want to pack is straw and packing it as tight as possible is extremely beneficial. It also speeds up colonization times too. FYI
