Question # 1 My first question is in regards to whether or not this casing is forming knots. See casing at : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/bjared2004/Casing.jpg If it is not, what do knots look like? Question # 3 Should the following casings be put in the terrarium, or patched and wait a few days? See pics at : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/bjared2004/Casing_1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/bjared2004/Casing_2.jpg Question #3 How long until these casings fruit? Please refer to them as casing 1, 2, and 3. Thanks! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That first pic looks like contamination but I am not 100%. The other two, I would say yes to patch them and put them back in the incubator until you have a more evenly colonized casing.

Hey man, I've been away buying shit to setup my greenhouse (marthalike) I know nothing about knotting or anything. You'd have to search for knots to see what it looks like. Casing 2 + 3 look good man, DEFINETLY patch those things up and throw them in your fruiting chamber. You should have pins no more than 2 weeks. What strains? Good luck

Okay.. sorry for answering bits at time... but...
First pic looks good. I saw like first 1/10 of the pic and saw tons of hyphae. You'll be blessed with pins within a day if I'm right.
Second and third pic.. well... they are going to fruit for ya 1-2 days I think. It's harder to tell than first one. And I'm gonna give you some adive about these at the end.
Casing normall take 1-2 weeks to fruit. You are very very close to pins. So, about 3-5 days until you get to pick them. Also, I looked very carefully for problems with contam and don't see them on the surface. That doesn't mean you are in the clear as they can grow inside first. But for now, they are looking good.
Okay... advices.. Verm... It looks like you are using Coir and coarse verm? Try to grind the verm up before you mix them. You can just use your hands to rub them together to get them to fine grade.
You patching looks pretty sad. I don't mean you did really terribly, but... well.. patching looks fairly ineffective. When you patch, you want to patch the aggressive growth completely and very lightly. Aggreessive growth will tend to stay aggressive and will spread fast. Dropping large chunk or two of coir... well.. look at bottom right on second pic. Try sprinkling it on next time. about 1/8"-1/4" should be good depending on how aggressive the growth is.
Anyways, congrats. I think you are going to be a daddy!

Thanks Sam!!!
Thats just the kind of support I needed. This is my first grow so I must rely on others experiences. There were many many time in this grow when I experienced pure joy; first signs of mycelium growth, complete colonization, casing. There were also times of great boredome and intense anticipation, and this is one of those times. Growing mushrooms really pays a toll on one's emotions. I can't wait to have the greatest reward of all when I finally get to see the fruits of my labour.
THANK YOU SHROOMERY

someone said that the first pic looked contamned, i think it is just the lighting because it looks like good mycelial growth, just grayish colored... i still think it may be the light, and i see what may be knots but hard to tell, only 3 or 4 if any... you will know knots when you see them, they are just as described, little white specks, about the size of a ballpoint in a pen as you have prolly heard... the other 2 casings, i would sprinkle a tiny bit of casing material over everything white, tiny as in hardly any at all... looks good though, you will have some nice fruits from them...

Tremor, are you suggesting he patch the last 2? Because I would disagree with that completely...
As far as first pic... Let me dl and circle some possibles.. They might be rhyzomorphic growth, but close inspection will reveal the difference. knots tend to be rounder than myc growth.

i would not dare try and fruit them like that so yes, i would patch them, the last one for sure, there is hardly any growth... and what do you mean, "knots tend to be rounder than myc growth."... of course, myc is stringy, knots are, well, knots...

Okay.. The pic.
Take a closer look... You should be able to tell if these are rhyzomorphic growth or knots IRL.
And I suggest you don't patch any of those casing at this time. They are coming out very evenly and you don't need to patch them up.

It's upto you about patching... but patching seems unneccessary IMO.

circled so he can inspect them closer. Those are looking like suspicous areas for hyphal growth. I'm sure he'll jump up and down if those aren't rhyzomorphic growth through the casing layer. Some I wasn't sure about, but his casing doesn't have much rhyzomorphic growth at all.. So, my money on hyphal knots.

Thanks Sam and Tremor. I do not want to side with anybody because I really don't know anything about this, but there still seems to be debate over patching, knots, etc. I think it would be great to get more opinions. Who better to learn about hyphae then from Hyphae himself. I would really like to keep this thread alive. Please donate your own pics if you have them.
