I need shaving help
    #3333773 - 11/08/04 05:08 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

I have tried a cheap electric razor. I have tried a super expensive
one with rotating heads on it. I have tried a triple razor(the
Mach 3 from Gilette). I have washed my face before shaving and I
have not washed my face before shaving. I have made extra attempts
to make sure when shaving with a razor that my face was super
lubricated(shaving cream...shaving cream mixed with water..etc..)

No matter what I fucking do I rip my face up and get red bumps and
zits because of it. Can somebody please give me a full-proof
technique for shaving that will not fuck up my face?

25. This shaving dilemma has been with me for years.

For a month or so, things will go great. I will get no face
rippage or zittage.

Then all of a sudden, I'll shave and it looks like someone took a
needle and made tons of little pinpricks all over my face.

wash face in hot water for about 5 mins. get some shaving gel
instead of cream. and use the mach 3.

I use shaving gel(Gilette "sensitive skin" gel). It looks like
blue goo.

Hm...will the warm water on the face for a long time help a
lot?

Also, do you shave up or down? Whenever I shave down, I don't get
a close shave, but my face doesn't get ripped up. When I shave
up(against the hairs), I get a close shave, but my face gets ripped
up badly.

Do you shave with a razor no matter if your face hair is long
or short? I have tried both. I have also tried shaving longer
hair with the electric razor and then hitting it with the blade
razor. I always get sporadic results with every technique I try
it seems.

To get rid of the red bums (aka Raxor Burn) try Visine.

Seriously...thats what Porn stars use on their croch to get rid of the razor burn.

Just an Idea...should work for the face too!

Sometimes my mach 3 and gel shaving is AWESOME. I get such a
good shave that it is great. At those times I feel like my face
and skin could be used in a commercial to show how good it worked.
Then, the next day, it's like BLAM!!! -- massive face rippage.

sounds like you have some hefty beard trying to come through. i'm thinking it's maybe ingrown hairs. washing or soaking your face in warm or hot water will help soften the hairs. after you're done shaving take a towel and kind of lightly rub the skin in a downward motion.

for me, i use an electric razor. it's kind of a trade off. it doesn't get super close, which is good because that's what ends up making those bumps. i have a waterproof norelco though, so when i do want a close shave, if i simply use a little water or the shaving lotion, that gives it a real nice close shave.

There are awesome tips in this thread about shaving, irritation and what sequence to do things.

and a photo essay on how to use shaving gel
wamr your hairs/pores (take a shower) then apply a cream, shave using a sharp blade (or many), wash with cold water or apply alcohol, then use a very small amount of moisturizer after you're all dried up.

Norelco, never cuts me but it does give a good, clean, close shave, and moisturizes my face.

I too have suffered from this for a long time and I finally broke down and went to the dermatologist to see what they could do.

First, never shave against the grain if your prone to razor bumps. This will result in too close of a shave and will exacerbate the problem.

Second, an electric foil (not the 3 circular rotating heads_ type razor is usally better for people with this kind of skin. However, once you start using it, it will probably take between 2-3 weeks for your skin to start getting used to it. In this time, it will get worse before it gets better.

Third, if you are still using a disposable blade type, less blades are usually better. I still prefer the Mach 3, but not the Mach 3 Turbo. But you may have to play until you find one that works best.

Fourth, shave only in the shower and preferably in the morning. Also, ditch the Gillete shit. It may say sensitive skin but it still has fragrances and shit that irrate skin. Aveeno sensitive skin shave cream is the most reccomended by dermatologists.

Fifth, there are prescription lotions they can give you that will greatly reduce the irration experienced from shaving. I don't know the name off hand, but this has probably been the greatest help for me.

Sixth, and this is something I discovered on my own, for some reason using Neutrogena Face Tanning Foam about 1-2 times a week also reduces this.

Try those and see if that helps. If not, you may need to go and see a dermatolgist yourself as there are many other options as well that they can prescribe for you.
