$250/month for a one bedroom, 1 bath apartment in a decent neighborhood in a small town in mid-Tennessee. The building is older (about 40 years or so), but well maintained.

I just recently moved back to the East Bay area from Monterey. I live with moms here so I pay jack squat fortunately.

When I was living in Monterey I was paying 600 dollars a month for a single bedroom/studio setup, rented out of a huge house. I didn't have my own entrance, but I shared the whole downstairs with three other older dudes renting rooms who were all paying 500 a month.

I had my own fullsize fridge, sink, microwave, but I had to share a bathroom with one other and I shared the kitchen with the three other older guys. 600 dollars a month is actually considered CHEAP when renting a room or studio in Monterey/Pacific Grove. I was broke all of the time, and I lived off of noodles for the last four months I lived there.

I could skateboard or walk to fifteen different surf spots and reefs, I could see everything from Pebble Beach to Santa Cruz and the whole Monterey Bay on clear days just by walking up to my deck. I remember once when I first moved there; Just got back from surfing, sitting on the deck in mid-afternoon I cracked a Newcastle Brown Ale and was just about ready to put the light to the bowl when I was looking out towards Santa Cruz, I saw a Grey Whale breach the water and jump, with both fins all the way out and land on its back. I was looking at this animal from probably almost a mile away, yet as soon as I saw, there was no mistaking it for what it was. I miss it alot.

I own a house on an acre in the woods, 2br 1 ba for 400/mo

The bad news is that my neighbors include some scary, inbred rural types. But I can pee off my deck. That's important for a man's well being...
