popcorn inoculation
    #3332364 - 11/08/04 05:48 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

i have 12 pint jars of popcorn that i am gunna inoculate with my 2 week old liquid myc culture. all they had was pints at the store i went to and because it was around 11 pm no other stores were open(oh well). anyways to my question - if my jars have been cooling for about 4 hours and they are warm, very slightly, to the touch is it ok to shoot it up with the liquid myc, or should i wait a little while longer?

pebbles, sleep on it. Litterally. Whether I use quarts or half pints I ALWAYS wait 12 hours at least. Why not you know? Im sure its possible that everything would be fine, and lots of pros may say go for it. Since im not a pro I would never argue it. But if you have 2 week old liq mic why not wait another 8 hours to be absolutely sure.

Best of luck to you, Im knocking up 12 quarts of popcorn tommorow, I hope it goes well.

Me too, what method did you use for the popcorn. I guess you probably followed the corn tek here. Did you soak for 24 hours then simmer or did you just simmer them?

I usually always soak and simmer rye, but this is my first time with popcorn.

i followed a tec by  sweetness on thenook and its a little different.
not sure if it will work but sweetness says there have been no problems with contamination. i pc the popcorn for 40 minutes at 15 psi then when cool put in jars (i also toweled them  to get excess water off) then i put tyveck filters on em (on top of the other lid with two holes- one for air and one for innoc then screwed the outer ring on) and pced for another hour at 15 psi. the only problem i see so far is half of the kernels split which i imagine could be fixed by lowering the psi to around 12 or shortening the pc cook time to 30 minutes. according to sweetness (without splittage of kernals) this should give you the correct water content in the kernals. but if i have a contam problem i can always go out and pay another $2 for some more popcorn  the beauty of having lots of liquid mycelium, i love the stuff!

do not risk it just wait. been growing for awhile now and 4 hours is not long enough. just be patient and all will go well. good luck.

I think 8 hours will be enough if you cannot wait but... patience can be better.

Wait a little longer. If the jars are still a little warm on the outside, they can be considerably warmer in the middle of the substrate.
