First Post. One question.

Just introducing myself and looking for a little advice. I'm a total noob to growing shrooms and have little experience with them other than that. So I'm getting set up here. I'm planning on ordering a syringe of Psilocybe Cubensis from www.sporebank.com and this grow kit.
http://irie.tc/uscico/product.php?xProd=103&xSec=4
So what are your favorite places to order from? See any flaws in my plan? Have any other tips? I'd like to learn from your mistakes instead of mine.

Welcome to the Shroomery!
Any sponsors of Shroomery.
Grow kits? They are way way way way way overpriced. I don't recommend them. Try reading a tek and finding the supplies yourself and save a lot of money.
In addition, the help you can get using grow kits is limited. They come with instructions and such but that's about it. We can answer some questions, but reliable answers for specific grow kits will be hard to come by.
Buy some jars, verm, BRF. Then look for PMP and TnT for incubation and fruiting. You won't regret it. Sam

80 bucks for that grow kit is very overpriced. Doesn't seem logical to purchase when you have a resource like The Shroomery to tell you what to buy, and will save you alot of money in the short run.

Ah, thanks. I guess I'll follow that first PF Tek exactly. Couple more questions. What strain would you suggest starting with and why? What is Horticultural vermiculite and what's a good place to order it from? Thanks for help. Looks like you guys have a kickass community here.

You can find vermiculite in stores that sell gardening soils. I got mine from Ace hardware. Ive seen it at wal-mart, and at other hardwares also.

Hmmm.. someone posted a good list of things and where to get them few days ago... forgot who it was though...
Vermiculite-lowes, walmart, homedepot, gardening center, k-mart, target, 99cent store(sorry, had to add this one cuz that where I get it from) You can't miss it. It's the one that's light and looks like gold flakes on them.
BRF- health food stores. You can buy whole brown rice and grind them with coffee grinder.
Jars-no lips, no tapering. They are called mason jars or canning jars. 1/2 pints. walmart, k-mart, target, craft stores.
After you read the PF tek a bit, you'll have more questions... here's something to get you started, though.
Also, use Max Fruiting formula.
1/4 cup BRF, 1/2 cup vermiculite and 60cc water. I suggest you use coarse vermiculite and NOT pack. These are few difference from the Teks you can use to get better results.
And here are the links for PMP and TnT.
Tub in Tub incubator (TnT) by Magash This is what you'd use to incubate the jars during colonization.
Poormans Pod(PMP) by Magash This is what you'd use to put the fully colonized jars into to grow mushrooms.
Good luck
Sam

Had a bad experience with sporebank? So what do you guys say you're planning when the cashier at home depot asks what all that stuff is for?

I don't know about sporebank... But I know the sponsors here are awesome and we should support them. After all, they pay the bills for the Shroomery.
